Existe uma tentação provavelmente tão antiga como a aparição do homem: o desejo de ver outras realidades atrás da realidade. Esta disposição multiplica infinitamente as possibilidades de interpretação e o significado das coisas e impossibilita a nomeação das coisas tal e qual como elas são. Este atavismo — ver atrás das coisas outras coisas — nasce duma deformação ocular de Deus, um estrabismo convergente tão pronunciado que se traduz num desdobramento. Estas realidades, assimptotas, não são mais do que o reflexo simétrico do mesmo, uma Tautologia.
Duplo vê é, ao mesmo tempo, o nome em extensão da letra W (inspirado no título de George Perec, W ou les souvenirs d’enfance) e também o “duplo ver” de um Deus vesgo. Duplo vê, O Tautólogo (nome dado ao demiurgo criador da tautologia) poderia ter um outro subtítulo: “Ensaio sobre o estrabismo de Deus”.
O livro representa um dos tentáculos do projecto Duplo Vê, que se compõe também pelo site dupluvedupluvedupluve.com e pelas exposições apresentadas na Casa das Histórias – Museu Paula Rego (29 de setembro a 13 de novembro de 2016) e Galeria Zé dos Bois (22 de abril a 24 de junho de 2017).

There is a temptation that is probably as old as the appearance of man: the desire to see other realities behind reality. This disposition infinitely multiplies the possibilities of interpretation and the meaning of things and makes it impossible to name things as they are. This atavism—seeing other things behind things—arises from an ocular deformation of God, a convergent strabismus so pronounced that it results in a splitting. These realities, asymptotes, are nothing more than the symmetrical reflection of the same, a tautology.
Duplo vê is, at the same time, the extended name of the letter W (inspired by George Perec’s title, W ou les souvenirs d’enfance) and also the “double vision” of a cross-eyed God. Duplo vê, O Tautólogo (the name given to the demiurge creator of tautology) could have another subtitle: “Essay on God’s strabismus.”
The book represents one of the tentacles of the Duplo Vê project, which also consists of the website dupluvedupluvedupluve.com and the exhibitions presented at Casa das Histórias – Paula Rego Museum (September 29 to November 13, 2016) and Galeria Zé dos Bois (April 22 to June 24, 2017).
