“Fui internado no hospital. Por favor, não se preocupem, mas liguem-me quando puderem. Muito amor, D,P,O.” Era sempre assim que ele terminava; uma abreviação de Dad, Pete, Opa. Tim J. Veling iria em breve saber que o seu pai tinha sido diagnosticado com cancro terminal no pulmão, com uma expectativa de vida de três meses. O chão foi subitamente arrancado debaixo dos seus pés. D,P,O é o registo desses últimos e preciosos meses. As fotografias são um testemunho não só do luto que pai e filho atravessaram juntos, mas, mais importante, do amor e da admiração que partilhavam; um relato do inevitável declínio de uma vida, ambientado num contexto de novas vidas e relações a florescer. Intensamente comovente na sua intimidade e honestidade desarmantes, D,P,O lembra-nos que, embora a morte chegue a todos, devemos viver o presente e valorizar profundamente a companhia das pessoas que nos são queridas. Pois, naqueles que permanecem, o amor e a vida perduram.

“I have been admitted to hospital. Please don’t worry, but call me when you can. Lots of love, D,P,O.” It was always how he signed off; shorthand for Dad, Pete, Opa. Tim J. Veling would soon learn his father had been diagnosed with terminal lung cancer with an estimated three months to live. The rug was suddenly pulled out from under his feet. D,P,O is a record of those last, precious months. The photographs are testament to not only the grief that father and son worked through together, but more importantly the love and admiration they shared; an account of the inevitable slowing of one life set to a backdrop of a new life and relationships thriving. Intensely moving in its unflinching intimacy and honesty, D,P,O reminds us that while death comes to us all, we must live in the present and treasure deeply the company of people we hold dear. For within those that remain, love and life endure.
